2023 marks the 60th anniversary of arguably Mercedes-Benz’s most “cost no object” vehicle. The 600 limousines, with the model designation W100.
Introduced to the public at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt held between 12th and 22nd September 1963, the car was an instant sensation. Production began in 1964, with a total of 2677 cars, in various body forms, manufactured up until June 1981. The longest manufacturing run of any Mercedes vehicle to date.
Much of the engineering and componentry in the car was unique to it. Including the mechanically fuel-injected, overhead cam V8 with a swept volume of 6,330cc. Also, the hydraulics system which powered all moving parts such the windows, doors and seats. In addition to the suspension, brakes and ancillaries.
